New COSASE Committee chairman charged with accountability, wanted on corruption charges

The newly appointed COSASE Chairperson in  Parliament, Mubarak Munyagwa has been issued another set of Criminal Summons to appear in Court on 6th/March on several corruption related charges. Anti-corruption Court Chief Magistrate Lamunu Pamella Ochaya extended the  summons on the request of Prosecution's   Alice Komuhangi Khaukha who informed  Court that she had not received any proof of service of the earlier summons sent out  to Munyagwa. Munyagwa who is also the Kawempe South member of parliament is alleged to have solicited for a bribe of 100shs  from a one Francis Kakumba in order for him to exert improper influence, over Kawempe Division Urban Concil to nominate Muyanja Isaac ( S/O Francis Kavuma) for appointment as a member of Kampala City Land Board representing Kawempe Division. He committed the said offence in  December 2014 at Haks Investment Limited, while he was Mayor Kawempe Division.

Mbarara Motor rally stopped after Vehicle kills one, injures another

The second day of the Mbarara Motor rally has been stopped after the car of rally driver, Jas Mangati knocked and killed a boda boda driver in Rubindi, Mbarara district, while his passenger has been rushed to hospital. The deceased is 20-year old Tumusiime Benson, a resident of Karuro in Rubindi, while the passenger battling for his life is identified as Kabugumira Innocent, from Rwamuhingi also in Rubindi.

Church condemns Miss Curvy Contest

The Church of Uganda has condemned the proposed Miss Curvy Uganda contest. This comes amid calls from women rights activists for the state minister of Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda to resign following his launch of the "Miss Curvy Women" contest, in an effort to boost tourism of the country. In a statement issued this morning, the archbishop of the Church of Uganda His Grace Stanley Ntagali says the church condemns the proposed beauty pageant calling for its cancellation. His Grace Ntagali says such a contest brings shame upon families and the country and is a demonstration of how low the country has fallen and as such cannot be accepted.   Minister Kiwanda however maintains that the contest is not immoral but rather to appreciate who we are as a country.

Woman starts petition to have Miss Curvy contest cancelled

Ethics and Integrity State Minister, Fr. Simon Lokodo has condemned a campaign by his cabinet colleague, State Minister for Tourism, Godffery Kiwanda of using curvy women to promote tourism. Minister Kiwanda under his slogan Tulambule-Uganda launched the campaign targeting both local and foreign tourists to visit Uganda and among others view the curvy and bummy women. Kiwanda Unveiled the project yesterday in Kampala where he said a beauty pageant dubbed ‘Miss Curvy Uganda’ has been launche d to select sexy curvy women and the finalists will be selected in June. However, Lokodo  says the campaign is false and shouldn’t have been a cabinet minister promoting such a project. Meanwhile, a Ugandan woman has started a petition to have the Miss Curvy Uganda contest cancelled.
